Yeah, We admit it, we're a mess! One of our core values says, "We are broken people discovering healing together." Most of the people you meet when you visit The Gathering will be nice and friendly. But you need to know, before you come, that we're a bunch of broken messes.
There are people attending, and even leading at The Gathering, who have major hurts, and hang-ups. In Fact, perfect people are not allowed. We're a community of people who don't have it all together, but are discovering what it means to find life in Jesus, to follow him fully, to break free from our past, and to walk in victory together. That's who we are.
What to Expect When You Visit
We hope you believe that we care about, not what you're wearing, not how many tattoos or piercings you may have or even what you may have done in your past! Why should we care about those things; we are very much alike! We are a church full of broken, imperfect people who are coming to know Jesus. Regardless of your story, we believe that you belong here!
If you've never been and you're considering coming, here's what you should expect...
- A Casual Atmosphere. At The Gathering we don't sit in pews or chairs lined up in rows, we sit at round tables as family and friends. This allows us to spread out and have a space to take notes or even color while listening to the message! We care about you, not what you're wearing, so feel free to come in jeans or whatever is comfortable. Our dress code is simple: wear something! Once you are here, grab a hot cup of free coffee or tea and sit wherever you'd like! We promise that we will never single you out publicly or ask you to say anything, and we do NOT expect guest to contribute anything financially.
- Nice People. We love meeting new people and those who are just visiting the area. Because Buena Vista gets so many visitors we don't always know if you are new to town or just visiting, so we make a point to greet everyone. So please feel free to say, "This is my first time" and we will show you around!
- Practical Teaching. We strive to connect the words of the Bible to everyday life and sing music that is lively. We are a small church, without a live worship team, so we currently sing along with and worship using music videos (it allows us sing the most current Christian music without having to wait for a worship team to learn the music). Don't be surprised when some people raise their hands as a sign of praise while singing, and don't feel obligated to do so yourself. Our goal is to have an atmosphere of freedom in our services.
- A Fun, Safe Environment for Kids. We believe that children should never be treated as second class citizens, especially when it comes to the teachings of Jesus. At The Gathering, we want your children to grow up understanding and respecting church services, while being together with their family. We encourage you to allow your child to be with you while singing and during the message. We know that kids can get board easily, so we provide different coloring and craft activities for them to do during the service. And don't worry when you're kids make some noise, that's what kids do.
At The Gathering, what's most important to us, besides our faith in God, is that you feel at home. Our goal is to make church what Jesus intended it to be, and not what man has turned it into! We trust the Bible completely, even when we don't fully understand it. And we value Kingdom growth; our vision is the Change the Spiritual Atmosphere of Buena Vista and the whole surrounding valley. We do everything in the name and fame of Jesus Christ!
